FOREIGN LANGUAGES ADD VALUE TO YOUR RESUME: LEARN JAPANESE
An ideal resume will have a space for “Languages”. But, if this space is occupied by just one language, it has the threat of pulling you down by a couple of steps. Additional languages help you develop a better understanding of the world live in and the various events that revolve around us. Even though English is a widely spoken world language, there are instances and countries where your knowledge of English can prove to be of little or no use.
The Pre-requisites:
Before embarking on the process of learning Japanese language, you should understand these facts:
There are of course difficult languages and easy languages. But, certainly, no language is impossible to learn. Languages which are proximate to your mother tongue would generally be easy because the vocabulary will have a higher degree of commonality. Learning a difficult language would therefore need some extra time.
Set a goal for yourself. Decide how and where you will employ your learning. The goal you set will match that objective. You should now understand the degree of learning that you would need to reach your goal.
Start Learning:
Once the parameters are set, simply start the learning process. Whatever time you decide to spent in learning Japanese language, from half an hour a day to whatever you can set aside would be fine. Regularity will be important revising consistently the lessons you already learned will also be necessary. If for inevitable reasons, you happen to drop out in the middle and have to go back the best way to do it would be to start where you stopped. But, instead of going forward from there, go backward and make doubly sure that whatever you learned in the earlier engagement is refreshed and integrated into your memory. In a short span of time, you would have acquired appreciable skills in Japanese language.
Foreign Language and your career:
As discussed at the outset, most employers look for recruits with additional skill sets, particularly in the area of languages. One reason for this is relocation and another is the type of business in which your prospective employer is engaged. Since Japan is in the forefront of a number of engagements, most employers will have some degree of exposure to Japan. Your knowledge of Japanese language will thus give you the edge over others. Additionally, you can also consider at the appropriate time pursuing a totally language oriented career such as Travel and Tourism, Translation etc.
Evolve methods to stay in touch with the language once you have learned it. |
