LEARN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES – LEARN JAPANESE
The expression “Language” is not restricted to what we humans use. Language also encompasses several other forms such as music, plant life, animals, circus etc. If you have ever been in a dense forest or a valley, early in the morning, you would have noticed the language of the nature. The serene environs with birds singing their own songs, the sound of waterfalls, or simply water flowing through tiny rivulets all make for languages in different forms. But, in God’s creation, humans are the only ones gifted with languages that can be employed with consistency in meaning, languages that have scripts, and those languages that can be written and read.
There are about 7000 languages around the world. But, not all of them are spoken or understood by societies in any appreciable numbers. In fact, just about 12 languages are regularly used by about 95% of the world’s population. From the rest, many have withered away, due to efflux of time and what remains do not enthuse pursuit.
The brain cells first formulate a thought and then express those thoughts in languages the owner of the brain knows best. Oftentimes, people think in their mother tongue and then translate those thoughts into the language which they are expected to use in the given occasion. Advocates of effective use of language opine that this may not be the most ideal method. One reason why your thought process itself should originate in the same language in which the thoughts are to be expressed is that during the process of translation, some of the original thoughts can either dissipate or express itself incorrectly.
Why do you need different languages?
“You live a new life for every new language you speak. If you know only one language, you live only once.” This is a Czech proverb. But, that apart, today we live in a fiercely competitive world that is very fast paced. Geographical limitations which existed prior to the Internet revolution are melting away. We have come into an era where State of the Art building in Paris is designed by an Architect in Seoul, executed by an agency from London, and supervised by another from Ottawa. So powerful is the technology today. It may not be necessary for all these people to speak a common tongue, but it certainly helps.
By learning different languages, you expand your knowledge base. You get insights into the culture and civilization of different people around the globe. You can acquire friends from across the globe. You can listen to music from different regions of the world. The list can be endless.
